Sunshine Martin is a multicultural, multimedia artist based in New York City whose practice explores racial and economic injustice through personal experience, family history, and the communities she comes from. Her work is rooted in the belief that complex experiences cannot always be expressed through a single medium. Painting, photography, sound, video, and other forms of media allow her to approach an idea from different perspectives and create spaces where viewers can encounter difficult subjects in more intimate and personal ways.

Her identity and upbringing strongly influence the way she see’s and experiences the world. she is particularly interested in the ways racial and economic injustice become part of everyday life not only through major events, but through the experiences that families and communities carry with them. she often uses her own experiences as a starting point because she views these issues not through a political or social lens, but as realities that can directly affect the people she loves.
